Dancing Holiday Light Spectacular Begins Tonite

Beginning December 1st, the Yaglenski Family will continue it's holiday tradition in the Villages of Urbana as they present the All New Dancing Holiday Light Spectacular featuring 4 unique shows choreographed to music, thousands of lights, animated wire frame figures, a light "pond", mailbox for Santa and more.  The display is located at 9056 Clendenin Way, just next door to the Villages Of Urbana Community Center (where parking is available) and is lit nightly from 6pm to 10pm Sunday thru Thursday and 6pm to 11pm Friday and Saturday thru December 30th.

Buffalo Wild Wings Opens For Business

A large crowd was on hand for the Buffalo Wild Wings Urbana Grand Opening this weekend.  At 6pm Sunday, there was a line beginning to form at what promises to be a popular new Urbana eatery.  BDub's or BW3's as they are also widely known (it used to be Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck) features a large dining area - from the looks of things, it takes up what would be 5 store fronts.  There is a front eating area near the door, a bar and bar dining area and a back (raised dining area).  The inside of Buffalo Wild Wings is very wide open with more flat screen TV's than you can count and a number of large projection screens as well scattered thru the restaurant.  Food wise, it's not just about wings, as the menu features wraps, burgers, chicken, salads and of course boneless and traditional chicken wings.  There's even an out door seating area for cool fall nights.  Even on the first night, things seemed to operate smoothly and the food and service was good.

Urbana Music Festival - June 27th!

The Urbana Regional Library and the Villages of Urbana Social Committee invite you to celebrate the summer season at the first free Urbana Music Festival. The festival will take place on Saturday, June 27, in front of the Urbana Regional Library, with two stages to accommodate both electric and acoustic performances. In the event of rain, musical performances will move inside the library.

Franklin Liquors Looks To Re-Open May 1

Longtime and new residents to the Urbana area alike will be pleased to learn that the reconstruction of Franklin Liquors is finally underway.  The local favorite which burned to the ground a year ago leveled the building, but new walls are finally going up again and according to the owners, the store will be better than ever. Opening date is targeted for May 1.

Buffalo Wild Wings & Others Coming to Urbana

A lease has been secured for the Urbana Village Center, along route 355 in Urbana for a new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.  The same shopping center lists among it's projected tenants - Rite Aid, Bank of America, Dry Cleaner, Ledo's Pizza and the Fractured Prune Donut Shop.  Opening dates are projected for early 2009.

Premium Outlets Headed To Urbana?

Tom Natelli, president of Natelli Communities, is proposing to build a 600,000-square-foot outlet center along Interstate 270, south of Fannie Mae, in Urbana. If approved, the site would have about 100 stores, and would be built by Chelsea Property Group, a division of Simon Property Group Inc., developer of the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets.

Allegheny Power To Hold Urbana Upgrade Meeting

As the need for electricity in the Urbana area has steadily increased, it has outgrown the capacity of Allegheny Power’s supply system. An upgrade is needed to keep up with that demand and to keep the community power supply reliable.  Allegheny Power is working under the order of the Maryland Public Service Commission to find a solution to serve the growing electricity demands of the Urbana area. They will be holding an open house and public informational meeting on Thursday March 27, 2008 at the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department from 6:30-8:30pm.  Urbana residents are urged to attend.

Dunkin Donuts and Fosters Grille Now Open

The Turning Point Center in Urbana welcomed two new tenants recently.  Foster's Grille, home of the Charburger and Dunkin Donuts both opened within the past week bringing more relief to the restaurant starved town.  Our staff ate at Fosters yesterday and was impressed with the quality of the food - especially the fresh cut fries.  Adult meals include your sandwich, fries and drink and run about $8.

Davidus Cigars Opens Saturday June 23rd!

The New Davidus Cigars Urbana store opens Saturday June 23rd at the Turning Point Center.  The state of the art Cigar Store will have will have many new features including the Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge - a collaboration between the Castro Brothers of Davidus Cigars and the Newman Brothers of J.C. Newman Cigar Company. Created to highlight the Diamond Crown Cigars, the Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge will feature two HD Plasma Televisions, Satellite and free High Speed Wireless Internet. The admission is Free when you make a cigar purchase.

Daily Grinding to a Halt

Looks like you can cross the Daily Grind off the list of stores coming to Urbana.  Posted on the location they were to occupy is a notice from Frederick County on a "Failure to Pay Rent" notice.  For whatever reasons, it appears that the Daily Grind has cancelled their plans to expand here.  Could it be the word that Starbucks may be making its home next to the McDonalds now under construction?

Urgent Notice - Water Main Break in Villages

Many homeowners are arriving home this evening to a surprise - as they find no water flowing from their faucets or toilets.  Frederick Count Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management is reporting a massive water main break that is effecting the Villages.  No time of restoration has been given but they are working on the problem.  Water supplies the local Giant Food were dwindling as of 9pm Tuesday evening.

FINALLY!  Giant Food To Open March 2nd

Giant Food in Urbana is hiring 100 new employees for its store on Sugarloaf Parkway in the Villages of Urbana, a spokesman said.
The supermarket opens March 2, and between then and now, the company is hiring cashiers, baggers and clerks in all food departments in addition to specialty areas such as a deli, a floral department and a “Best Sellers” department which includes books, newspapers and movies.

Davidus Cigars Coming To Turning Point Center

Davidus Cigars, Ltd. sixth store will open in Urban in spring of 2007, joining locations in Frederick, Ellicott City, Olney, Gaithersburg, and Potomac. Davidus Cigar Stores feature an upscale look with Hardwood Floors, leather furniture, and the largest cigar selection in Maryland.
