Villages Of Urbana Summer Concert
Series
The first of 4 summer concerts sponsored by the builders of the
Villages of Urbana took place on June 1 as the classic rock band
played before a crowd of a few hundred residents. Future
concerts are scheduled for July 6 (jazz), August 3 (classic
rock) and September 7 (tba).

7-11 Now Officially Open
After closing their old location and leaving Urbana without a
good cup of coffee for the past few days, the new 7-11 location
is finally open with gasoline priced 1 cent less than the
Exxon. We wonder if a price war will ensue to attract
customers...

First Annual Villages of Urbana
Yard Sale
The homeowners of the Villages of Urbana will hold it's first
annual community yard sale on June 8th from 9am-12 noon. The
hoa plans to have a map available so you can locate all those
participating which will be handed out the day of the sale.

Civic Association Meets
The Urbana
Civic Association will have its Spring meeting on WEDNESDAY, MAY
29, 7:30 pm at the Urbana Fire Hall. Featured topics will
include the proposed plans for the new Urbana District Park,
what's next with the Urbana Region Comprehensive Plan and Zoning
Update, and a vote by the membership on a bylaw change. They
will also have information on water, wells and septic systems
available.

Chevy Chase Bank Coming to Urbana?
The Urbana
Civic Association reports in their latest newsletter that the
Merchants Center Area of the Town Center is now under
construction. Zoning notices have been posted near the circle on
what will be relocated 355 that mention a Drive Thru Bank. This
seems to corroborate the mention of talks between the developer
and Chevy Chase Bank and a Daycare Provider to be some of the
first occupants of the new Town Center.

New 7-11 Nearing Completion
Most of the
exterior work has been finished, paving is near complete and
7-11 signs have been posted. According to store employees,
the target date for moving to the new facility is sometime in
June.

Spring Festivals Around The Area
Spring has
sprung, and in the month of May all sorts of carnivals and
festivals are planned to get people out into the warm air. This
weekend, area residents can have enjoy eggs at the Kemptown Egg
Fest, or find fun at their school at the Green Valley Elementary
School carnival. Later in the month, festivals will be had at
New Market, Oakdale, and Urbana Elementary Schools.

Urbana Strawberry Festival May 31
Urbana
Elementary School's annual Strawberry Festival is planned for
May 31, after school. There is no admission charge, but
festival-goers can purchase tickets for activities that usually
involve games like the Moon Bounce and dunk tank, activities like
a white elephant table and face painting, and enjoying the
festival's signature strawberry sundaes.

Urbana Region Plan Update -
Trends & Issues Open Houses
The Frederick County Department of Zoning & Planning is moving
into the next phase of the Urbana Region Plan update with the
release of the "Trend and Issues Report". This report
provides background on the plan update process itself,
identifies what has been going on in the region since the
previous plan update in 1993 and also identifies issues that
will need to be addressed in this update. Two open houses
will be held. No formal presentations will be given and
you are welcome to stop by at any time.
