Urbana Elementary Strawberry Festival

Urbana Elementary School will hold their annual Strawberry Festival May 21 from 4-8 pm.  The festival is an end of year celebration for children which includes games, moon bounce, pony rides, spin art, food, music and much more.  Currently the committee is looking parent volunteers to help in many aspects of the event.  Please return the bright pink form sent home with your children indicating your availability to assist or contact the school for more information.

Road, Water & Sewer Upgrades Under Review By Frederick Board of County Commissioners

The Frederick Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal to issue $36 million in special obligation bonds to pay for roads, water and sewer upgrades and other public improvements in Urbana.  Out of that, $3.5 million has been pegged to fund the realignment of Md. Route 355, a project set to begin construction next week, according to Paul Coleman, project manager for Natelli Communities, the developer of Villages of Urbana.

17 Year Cicadas To Invade Maryland This Spring

After 17 years underground, millions of periodical cicadas (Brood X) will emerge throughout the eastern United States in late spring 2004. Periodical cicadas, which are unrelated to but often confused with locusts, are harmless to humans or animals but their egg-laying may cause some plant damage. Those who experienced the last emergence in 1987 will remember populations as large as 100,000 per acre disrupting outdoor events and sounding off with loud – almost deafening – mating calls.

Urbana Rec Council Holds Valentine's Dance

Urbana Rec. Council will be holding a Valentine's dinner/dance on Saturday, February 14th at Urbana Fire Hall. Roast beef, ham, chicken & fantail shrimp buffet are included. Doors open at 6pm. BYOB.
