Details: Located on the far western edge of central
Maryland is the Antietam Battlefield, which lies outside of the
small, historic town of Sharpsburg. The battle of Antietam took
place in September of 1862 and was the scene of the bloodiest
single day of fighting of the civil war. In 1864 the
cemetery was established by the State of Maryland. Antietam
National Battlefield was established in 1890 when veterans began
to idealize the war and wanted to commemorate it. It is the
oldest national cemetery.

the Gettysburg National Military Park, with over 1,000 monuments

shrine to the Union and Confederate soldiers who fought here.
Plan to visit the scene of the Gettysburg Address, Picket's
Charge, General Robert E. Lee's Headquarters, Little Round Top,
and the Devil's Den. You can even meet Abraham Lincoln! In
